Working within IT for most companies today almost always means at some point, you will have to take a certification exam. If you are a network engineer, this means you will need to take a Salesforce certification exam. To accept and pass a Salesforce exam is not an easy thing.
Is Your New Year’s Resolution to Finally Get that Salesforce Certification Under Your Belt?
Many study guides will help you prepare for the test, but not many provide tips on what to do while sitting the exam to help increase your chances of passing. Because let’s be honest, we have all sat a test before where we are only just about passing the Salesforce practice tests and have doubts in our mind that today is not the day. So being able to get a few more marks by missing out on idiotic errors could be the difference you require to pass!
1. Read Every Salesforce Certification Exam Question Twice, Read Every Answer Twice
We often skim over a response, and we might not have much time left or feel the stress building up as we begin to rush.
But by doing this, you could skip reading a word, and a single word in a question can occasionally mean the whole distinction. Most of the time, it comments like Has or Has not, Does or Does not. Look out for words that your eyes might mistake when reading them fast, like those I just highlighted. That is why we should read a question twice to make sure we did not misinterpret anything, because some questions will have answers that appear logical to a twisted question but, upon closer inspection, are wrong.
2. Read Every Answer
Often, we read a Salesforce exam question and confidently think it is the first or second answer, moving on without reading the rest of the answers. This is a widespread error that we all make! It can be compelling to select it and move on; even if you are 99% sure, you should always read the rest of the answers.
Many Salesforce answers in their certs can be interpreted as the right one; by committing too early, you might miss an answer that appears more logical.
3. Eliminate Two Incorrect Answers
In most of the questions where you have to select one answer out of four, two logically could be the correct answer, and two less likely to be the correct answer. Try to work downwards by recognizing the two that do not seem correct. This will assist you in deciding the right answer, as you will have less to reach, making the process easier.
You give yourself a 50% chance of reaching the question right by successfully eliminating two answers. If you did that on every question, it would equate to a 50% possibility of passing. With only 65% to pass, this will get you within 15% of a pass without even considering the correct answer!
4. Big up Salesforce When in Doubt
Many Salesforce questions like to make themselves look good by highlighting their capabilities.
If something appears like common sense, for example, Salesforce having a particular feature that you would expect as standard, it is likely correct. But only use this method when you are stuck on a question, as it might not be the right one. Once done, go back and reread every question, including every possible answer.
There will be questions that you have no idea what the answer is, and you do not know if Salesforce has made up fake names to make them look realistic or genuine. Along with the Salesforce exam, the good news is that you learn and gain knowledge from other questions and answers, which might help you with that question.
It is also best to double-check your answers and iron out any minor errors you might have made when reading them the first time, which leads me nicely to the next point.
5. Use the “Mark This Question for Later Review”
If you are ever the slightest bit uncertain, use this checkbox. By checking it, you will create a subconscious note in your brain to look for information in later questions that might aid you in answering that one because this checkbox will add a level of significance to the question and put it on your radar.
Going back over your questions at the end of the Salesforce certification exam will add extra protection as you meet a question with this tick box marked, so you will spend more time reading and feeling about the answers.
6. Do Not Finish the Salesforce Certification Exam Early
You are given a set amount of time, so use it all. There is no need to show off to colleagues about how quickly you managed to do it; the only thing anybody works about is if you passed or not!
The more times you check a question, the more times you are diving into your pool of knowledge, and you never understand when you might pull out a bit of knowledge that will answer the question. It might be the first time reading the question or the fourth, but reading it will give you more confidence and more chance of getting it right.
7. Follow Your Gut!
There will always be moments when we look at a question and choose an answer, feeling quite sure about it, then we look at it a bit more and think differently. And this crossroad shocks us all when we get there.
If you desire to look at statistics and probabilities on which one will be right, you should go with your gut. If your gut initially said the first answer, then select that one. You will, more than likely, read an answer, and a particular word or number will pop up in an answer that will flash your memory back to your revision.
It would be best to go into the exam feeling reasonably comfortable with the amount of revision you have done, so do not be scared to follow what your gut is telling you is the correct answer.
8. Use Your Time to Memorise Questions
This is a backup plan. If you fail, you will want to understand where your weaknesses are. So, for all the questions that you are unsure of, take a mental note of them so you can explore them after to find the answer for next time.
